How a song and dance taught me deflect others reactions

Sometimes you just have to tune out the world around you, people, places, events, ideas, struggles, other people BS and just tune into your own song.  Or heck yet, pick a song and hang on.  This was taught to me through an example by a young lady who in the mist of another persons reaction just tuned into a song (started humming) and did a little exercise like dance.  It was so simple and of course I noticed it right away but didn’t process it as a tool until sometime later.  The most powerful things are often the most subtle.

Mindful thinkers tell us that we can not change another’s reaction however we can recognize when someone just over reacted and move on without participating or feeding it.  Meaning we do not internalize it so it sits with the person to resolve for themselves.

Her gesture was simple and just above Child Like.  It was a teaching moment as well as a practical tool to cope with well whatever one may be taking in or not have allowed themselves to real deal with in that moment.  We are after all human and despite are best intentions “we all go there” from time to time.  I can be practically good at this when I am overwhelmed and do not allow myself time to process impressions, situations, and basically those challenges that we face some days more then others.  Auto pilot meets lighting speed and there is no brakes in site so one just keeps playing the patterns of what was or what will be.

So the next time you find yourself caught in the pitch of someone’s reaction.   Tune into a song that uplifts you or makes you happy and do a little jig, dance or wicked moment – something understated after all they need the light to see more clearly not you!
