Snow Snow Snow – it’s all about the Weather

It truly is all about the weather!  We all take for granted the sunny days, take cover on those rainy days and hide out when winter blows in icy winds and covers the county with snow.  All seasons have a reason and the earth is continually in action which is pretty much like ourselves in some ways.  We dress for the weather, shelter for and from the weather, determine our quality of life by the weather and even adjust our environments (for better or worst) due to the weather.  Some people even move because of the weather but all that said we really know so little about the weather.    Have you heard a weather forecast lately?  Amazing – they seem to be spot on or well, not really getting it.  But lets face it – We can’t control the weather but what we can work with is how we see the weather.

Living in New England we have a common saying:  If you want to experience every season in one day – Come to New England – No really it will happen!  Having lived here the longest, it has become a part of my biological pattern.  Activities and renewed energies in the Spring, Yearning in exploring in the Summer, comfort and reflection in the Fall with a dash of whimsical beauty.  Winter is the solace of the soul and a time for deep meditation and of course the “cold season”.

My stock up list for winter:

  1. soup stock or bone broth at least once a day and added to base of foods
  2. Manuka Honey – for cold remedy relief
  3. Humidifier, Crockpot, Nettle Bottle, Space Heater

Food changes:

  • Warming foods with a sweet and spicy mix
  • fall vegs and stir-fry’s now have sweet potatoes/potatoes added to them
  • Banana’s and other potassium reach foods
  • Deep Green vegs both cooked and raw
  • pumpkin puree for adding to baking mixes
  • lip balm and moisturizing lotions

Water to hydrate but also just as important leave space in your food for more liquid.  Or have soup or other nutrient rich liquids with your meal or through out the day.  While sugar loaded or sugar alternative drinks may have there place.  I believe that Hydration should be on going not just when sick.

Tips for winter in New England:    My one and only!

Ice Cleats or Grips for your boots or shoes!!!!!    I use the brand Ya…. but I am not paid to or promote any brand.  Over the years the field has became wide open on the variety of them.   Just make sure they stay on and are easy to take off.  I use them to get to and from work/places but remember when inside they slip on indoor surfaces and pull on rugs.

Please note when shoveling : be aware of the fit so they do not fall into the snow!  Maybe in the Spring you will find them, LOL.

In conclusion: While we can’t change the weather we can learn through trial and error how to adept to it.  So I hope this was helpful and others will share their tips as well.

Whether it is a cold Climate or one with a  blazing Sun we all adjust to the weather on more levels then we ever really realize.

Happy Winter!  Whatever your winter turns out to be.
